Team India’s coaching staff likely to get longer stint

India’s one-day series win over England seemed to have done goods to the newly-appointed coaching staff of the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side, as Sanjay Bangar, B Arun and R Sridhar are likely to remain with the national squad till the 2015 World Cup.

Team India’s director for the limited-overs series, Ravi Shastri had praised newly-appointed coaching staff’s performance on the series and according to ESPN Cricinfo the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are likely to extend their contracts.

A formal call on the appointment of the new trio will be taken in BCCI’s working committee meeting, in which the report submitted by Shastri about the performance will also be discussed.

If the appointment of Arun, Sridhar and Bangar will be confirmed as assistant coaches in the meeting, Trevor Penney and Joe Dawes might be axed from the coaching staff.

There were doubts about the future of both Penney and Dawes with the national squad, when they were sent on a break by the BCCI, after India’s 3-1 thumping in the Test series.

Sridhar was appointed the coach of Andhra Pradesh and according to reports, the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has started arranging Sridhar’s alternatives for the forthcoming domestic season.
