After Shahid Afridi’s Resignation, Sarfraz Ahmed Named Pakistan T20 Captain

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed has been promoted as the Pakistan T20 captain, after the resignation of Shahid Afridi, after the World T20.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) informed about its decision in a press release, while also quoting board president Shaharyar Khan.

“PCB is pleased to announce appointment of Sarfraz Ahmed as captain of Pakistan T20 team,” the press release stated. “Sarfraz was appointed vice captain of ODI and T20 teams last year.”

“He takes over the captaincy of the shortest form of the game from Shahid Afridi whose term as captain came to an end after the ICC World T20 2016,” it added.

Khan, the president of the PCB, insisted that Sarfraz was an automatic choice for the captain’s position after Afridi’s departure.

“I spoke to Sarfraz this morning and conveyed to him that he was our natural choice for this position,” Khan said. “His appointment is open-ended. I wish him good luck in his new role.”
