The Indian Cricket Team almost had batting legend Sachin Tendulkar as their batting consultant. But, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) rejected the plea of Ravi Shastri. Shastri eventually got his coaching staff for the Indian team.
Shastri, however, has asked Tendulkar as Indian team’s batting consultant. The board, meanwhile, made it clear to him that any role with the Indian team should be cleared of ‘conflict if interest’.
“Ravi put forward the idea of having Sachin on board as a consultant for a very short period,” a member of the committee informed. “But the committee promptly reminded him about the conflict of interest clause.”
Tendulkar currently has various commitments, including the IPL. The Board felt that it would be unfair to ask him to let go off his commitments for giving about 25 days in a year to the Indian team.
“Expecting someone to be around for an extremely short period and leave his other professional commitments is asking for a bit too much,” he added. “I doubt for 25 days in a year, you would want to forgo all your other commitments.”
