Ranji Trophy Round-up: Mohit Sharma’s fifer helps Haryana register win over Maharashtra

Andhra beat Kerala, Haryana triumphed over Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh defeated Madhya Pradesh while Odisha lost to Gujarat and Karnataka beat Bengal on the last day of the second round of the ongoing multi-day domestic tournament. Here are the highlights of the day:

Bengal vs Karnataka: Karnataka collected six points for their thumping nine-wicket win over hosts Bengal at the Eden Gardens. Skipper Vinay Kumar set-up victory with a six-wicket haul to help bowl the home team out for 227 earlier in the day. Chasing the 71-run target, Robin Uthappa departed for 54 with victory in sight. Mayank Agarwal then attained the target with Kunal Kappor.

J&K vs Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu posted a 277-run win against J&K on the third day of the match.

Madhya Pradesh vs Uttar Pradesh: UP claimed a four-wicket win against MP in a low-scoring match in the second round. Chasing 180, they resumed their innings on 82/4 on the fourth morning to attain the target. Top-scoring for the side in the innings, Parvinder Singh (41) helped close in on the target. Ekalavya Dwivedi and Piyush Chawla then took the team across the line with 16 and 24 not out respectively.

Railways vs Mumbai: In the drawn game in Delhi, Railways gained three points on the basis of their first innings lead against Mumbai who collected one point. The Anureet Singh-led lineup bowled the visitors out for 101 after resuming their innings on 24/3. Singh picked 4/35, R Mali took 3/27 while K Upadhyay claimed 2/37 to bowl Mumbai out. When play was called off, Railways were 136/4 in the second innings.

Haryana vs Maharashtra: With a 53-run win, Haryana picked six points from the round. Chasing 208, Maharashtra were bowled out for 154 by Mohit Sharma and Ashish Hooda after resuming on 9/0. Mohit picked 5/45 while Ashish took 4/40 and Kuldeep Hooda chipped in with the wicket of Rahul Tripathi to bowl the team to victory.

Odisha vs Gujarat: A resounding eight-wicket win over the hosts, gave Gujarat six points. The visitors claimed the remaining five Odisha wickets earlier in the day and wrapped-up the hosts’ second innings for 248. A Mallick scored 126 as Odisha looked to extend their innings while Rush Kalaria claimed six in the innings. The bowler returned with 12 wickets in the game. Chasing 102, the visitors lost both openers early with 32 runs on the board but Bhargav Merai and Rujul Bhatt took the team to the target with an unbroken 73-run partnership.

Vidarbha vs Punjab: Punjab claimed three points on the basis of first innings lead while Vidarbha were granted one in the drawn match in Nagpur. Earlier, resuming on 211/6, Punjab were bowled out for 255. G Khera scored a century before being sent back by Shrikant Wagh to bring curtains down on Punjab’s second innings. Chasing the 293-run target, Vidarbha were 143/3 in the second innings when play was called off.

Rajasthan vs Saurashtra: After piling on 437 before declaring their innings, Rajasthan bowled Saurashtra out for 281 and enforced the follow-on. Resuming on 180/3, the visitors had added 101 runs for seven wickets during the day. Pankaj Singh claimed four while Deepak Chahar took three and S Ghelot picked two wickets. When play was called off, the visitors were 121/3. Rajasthan received three points for their first innings lead while Saurashtra got one.

Andhra vs Kerala: A comprehensive seven-wicket win over Kerala gave Andhra Pradesh seven points for their effort. Chasing 218 for an outright win, Andhra attained the target in 51.2 overs for the loss of three wickets. KS Bharath and D Prasanth set the stage with a 95-run opening stand. M Sriram and A Rakesh then took the team across the line with ease.

Assam vs Jharkhand: In the drawn match in Guwahati, Jharkhand received three points on the basis of first innings lead while the hosts picked one. After bowling Assam out for 191, the visitors had posted 217 in the first innings. Resuming their second innings on 157/2, the home team declared on 235/9 on the last day. Chasing 210, Jharkhand were 78/4 when the game was called off.

Hyderabad vs Goa: Following on, Goa managed to pull off a draw against Hyderabad and gain one point from the match while the hosts got three. Goa were bowled out for 269 earlier on the last day after resuming their first innings on 238 for six and were asked to follow-on. Opener Amogh Desai then came out and anchored the innings with an unbeaten century to ensure a draw. Rohit Asnodkar was not out on 51 with the opener when play was called off.
