Got badly hit, nothing serious: Manoj Tiwary

It was a close shave for Bengal’s Manoj Tiwary after being hit by Abhimanyu Mithun’s bouncer during the final day of Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

Apparently, Tiwary took his eyes off the ball, which struck at the back of his helmet. Incidentally, this was Mithun’s first delivery of the 38th over. All the players rushed to rescue Tiwary in state of shock. Fortunately Tiwary is okay now. The impact of the bouncer was such that his helmet even cracked.

Tiwary confirmed later in the evening: “I am doing fine at the moment. Got hit badly but nothing serious.” He also promised that next time there is a bouncer like this he would surely hit it for a six.

This incident came to the light after Australian batsman Phil Hughes lost his life after being hit by a bouncer in a domestic match in Sydney last month.
