Play or Not to Play? Carlos Brathwaite is Delhi’s Double-Edged Sword

Carlos Brathwaite

Carlos Brathwaite four sixes to help the West Indies win the World T20 against England at the Eden Gardens is still fresh in one’s mind.

His innings was so full of impact that no IPL team won’t have missed the opportunity to avail his services throughout the season.

However, Delhi Daredevils, had other plans. The Delhi team management didn’t use Brathwaite in all the games and kept chopping and changing as the per the opposition and playing conditions.

It wasn’t only Brathwaite who had to bear the brunt of Delhi’s constant changes. There were other cricketers too who didn’t get an extended runs.

There were also occasions where some niggling injuries forced the management to change the playing XI just before the game. Therefore, it is good to have a team which doesn’t depend on individuals and Drcricket7 was the first on the web to write about it.

It’s a benefit that is also a liability, which carries some significant risk of losing matches. The Delhi players, perhaps, didn’t get that stable feeling from the management.

It eventually led some mediocre performance, which is hurting the team right now. The Daredevils are at the crossroads where they have to choose to field the best possible XI or experiment with the resources available.

For sure, time is running out and they have missed a trick by not giving extra leverage to match-winners like Brathwaite.

With two matches still be played, Delhi have their back against the wall. They are up against very good oppositions like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royals Challengers Bangalore.

Since, they have opted to keep all the hard work for the business end of the tournament, it will be interesting to see how the Daredevils handle this one.
