Nathan Lyon satisfied with umpiring, after MS Dhoni asked for improvement

Umpiring decisions have not gone India’s way in the series so far and the touring party have to endure some tough umpiring calls in the concluded two Tests, which prompted skipper MS Dhoni to ask for better umpiring.

Team India has faced atleast five calls that aren’t satisfying, including Shikhar Dhawan’s dismissal in the first innings of the Brisbane Test. Dhoni after the 2nd Test made it clear that umpiring standards should improve, with two matches are yet to be played.

“There’s a lot of 50-50 decisions that are not going in our favour,” Dhoni said. “We’re on the receiving end more often than not. What happens in DRS, even if the DRS is around, those (contentious) decisions won’t go in our favour.”

Meanwhile, Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon has contradicted MS Dhoni and insisted that umpires are doing a pretty “good job” and defended the umpires.

“I personally think they’ve done a pretty good job,” Lyon said. “I know it’s been quite tough for them, especially in Adelaide. That wicket was a pretty tough wicket.”

“They’ve made some big decisions,” he added. “Some have gone against India, some have gone against Australia. It’s a tough job to do. It’s something I wouldn’t like to do.”

Lyon pointed out that players need to control their emotions and shouldn’t get affected from umpiring calls.

“You’re going to have to control your emotions out there,” Lyon said. “We know in Adelaide some emotions were flying quite high when a couple of decisions weren’t going either way.”

“But that’s Test match cricket,” he added. “There’s enough emotions out there in the middle. We just have to keep patient and keep working hard and not worry about what the umpire says.”
