All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the remaining two Test matches against Australia owing to a shoulder injury and will be replaced by left-arm spinner Axar Patel in the squad.
Jadeja was not part of the first two Tests in Adelaide and Brisbane, and picked the injury while training during that time. The 26-year-old will return to India for rehabilitation.
“Axar Patel will join the Indian team in Australia for the remainder of the Test Series as a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, who has a shoulder injury and will be returning to India to undergo a rehabilitation program,” BCCI said in a statement.
Axar was in line for playing in the tri-series in Australia, also featuring England as the third team, before the World Cup. The Gujarat-born has impressed one and all with his performance in the limited-overs format for the men in blue.
India is currently trailing the four-match series 2-0, after losing the Adelaide and Brisbane Tests. The third Test of the series will be played on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
