MS Dhoni unveiled the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) trophy in Chennai yesterday. The Indian limited-overs captain, alongwith TNCA president N Srinivasan, and others were present in the ceremony.
It was also announced that the India Cements will sponsor the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Eight teams will be competing the first edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. On Thursday night, team owners and all eight franchisees were unveiled, amid raucous cheers that MS Dhoni received at a city hotel.
“When we wanted to have a function to unveil the trophy,” Srinivasan said. “The most fitting person to do the honours was Dhoni. What fills our hearts is the fact that in spite of his preoccupations.”
“He has found the time to attend the event,” the former Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) president added. “When we were able to reach him, he said yes .True to his word, he has turned up on time.”
TNPL Teams: Albert Tuti Patriots, Chepauk Super Gillies, Lyca Kovai Kings, Madurai Super Giants, Ruby Kanchi Warriors, VB Thiruvallur Veerans, Dindigul Dragons and Karaikudi Kaalai.
