MS Dhoni Backs Youngsters; Calls For Patience

On a sluggish Ranchi pitch, the Indian team failed to chase down a 260-run target. The Blackcaps never allowed the Indian middle-order to fire. They eventually won the game to level the series at 2-2.

The Indian middle-order failed to deliver once MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli departed cheaply. Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya failed to take the team over the line.

Dhoni, the Indian captain, lent his support to the youngsters after the game. The Captain Cool said that it is important to back the youngsters, as they are still learning to deal with pressure situations.

“Cricket has changed, people like to play big shots. It is important to not tell them to stop playing the shots. You don’t want them to go into their shells,” Dhoni said at the presentation ceremony.”

“The No. 5 and 6 are quite new, they will learn their own way,” he added. “Some will play big shots, some will take it deep. Once they have played 15-20 games, they will figure out what works for them.”

The series-decider will take place in Vizag on October 29. New Zealand will be aiming to win it and take the ODI trophy home, after facing thumping defeats in the Test matches, earlier.
