India vs Sri Lanka: Varun Aaron ruled out, Stuart Binny named replacement

Team India has received a huge dent ahead of the second one-dayer against Sri Lanka as pacer Varun Aaron has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs because of a quadriceps muscle strain.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a statement has named all-rounder Stuart Binny, who last played for the men in blue in Bangladesh, as Aaron’s replacement.

“Varun Aaron is injured, and he has been replaced by Stuart Binny in the Indian team for the second and third games of the India vs Sri Lanka ODI Series 2014,” the BCCI informed in the statement.

There were question marks overs the fitness of Aaron, after the speedster left the field in the 13th over of the Cuttack ODI. He only managed to bowl four overs and didn’t return to the field.

Stand-in skipper Virat Kohli didn’t take any chances after the bowler complaint about the niggle and asked him to leave the field, as he has a long list of injuries in his short international career.

“Aaron struggled after the fourth over and I don’t know the extent of his injury,” Kohli told about Aaron’s injury post 1st ODI. “I didn’t want to take a chance and asked him to rest.”

The second ODI of the series will be played in Ahmedabad on October 6, with India leading the five-match series 1-0, after a thumping win in the opening one-dayer.

Meanwhile, the BCCI also informed that the team for the final two ODIs and the four-match Test series against Australia will be announced later.

“The meeting of the All-India Senior Selection Committee to pick the Indian team for the last two ODIs of the ongoing series, and the side for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, has been postponed,” BCCI informed.
