What is common between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders? They are both winning matches by batting first when rest of the teams have preferred to chase. They both have batting and bowling depths.
And, most importantly at this stage of the tournament, they both are also looking great to go all the way. If KKR are able to restrict the defending champions, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, by 17 runs at home, the Daredevils were no less.
After outplaying the Rising Pune Supergiants by 97 runs in their second outing, they had the better off the Kings XI Punjab on Saturday. But what defines these wins is the momentum, which is so important to get going in this format.
The Daredevils versus Kings match was a classic case how this format actually works. Batting first after winning the toss, Delhi were scoring nearly at eight runs per over till the 15th over.
But the moment, Chris Morris walked into the middle, the tempo of his team changed. Not that Morris played an outstanding knock for his team like he did in the Pune game. But the South African made just 16 off eight deliveries.
He was able to rub off his confidence in favour of Corey Anderson. And the rest, they say is history. Anderson, wasn’t particularly, timing the ball to perfect, started to middle it.
He was so good at hitting some of them that he could make a quicker 39 off just 22 deliveries. It was this momentum that changed the course of the match. Similarly, KKR has gained lot of momentum through their captain.
Gautam Gambhir able to turn it around in first few matches despite having a very ordinary season with the bat. Now that, these two top teams are playing as per their expectations and slated to meet each other on Monday.
It would be interesting to see who walks away with all the advantage and make T20 a winner again!
