The 3rd T20 series against South Africa is the only remaining opportunity for MS Dhoni and his men to revive their form before the ODI series begins. In first two matches that South Africa played against the hosts, they were in delightful form.
In fact, the only time India have really looked in control of things was when their opener Rohit Sharma cracked his maiden T20 century in the series opener in Dharamsala. Otherwise, it has been the Proteas all the way.
Now that the visitors are eyeing a T20 series whitewash, they may have to encounter the Rohit storm. That is because the Mumbai batsman will be playing this match in his favourite ground – the Eden Garden.
He shares a very good rapport with the ‘City of Joy’ in terms of the number of runs he has scored in this venue. Every time, he has taken a guard on the Eden pitch, he has never looked back and has always raced ahead of the others.
Will Friday’s match produce another Rohit Sharma special? Perhaps one can’t foretell these things in advance, but one thing is certain, India will have a fearlessly approach in this match.
With the series already in South Africa’s pocket, India know that playing cricket with a positive intend is the only way out. A lot of planning went into those previous games, but nothing came out of it.
Like the way Rohit Sharma plays at the Eden Gardens, India team needs to be instinctive. It’s after all a T20 cricket and you have to keep things simple, as captain Dhoni very often points out.
After all, India have nothing more to lose. They have nothing more to be worried about. It’s just time to go out there and express yourself!
