India won the toss and elected to bat first in the 2nd Test against Australia in Bengaluru. The hosts made two changes in the squad from the last game. Australia, meanwhile, fielded an unchanged team from Pune.
Opener Abhinav Mukund and Karun Nair replaced Murali Vijay and Jayant Yadav in the playing XI. India decided to strengthen its batting, especially after dropping Vijay from the playing XI.

Mukund, meanwhile, made a comeback into the Indian team after a long gap of more than five years. However, his comeback was spoilt by Mitchell Starc, who dismissed him for a duck.
“The toss has not been that bad, but it is the cricket that was bad in Pune,” Virat Kohli said. “(It) looks like a typical Bangalore wicket. Pretty good to bat on. The first three days should be good.”
