The Aussie spinners again got the better of India. They exploited India’s weakness, especially Nathan Lyon. India lost the advantage of batting first, as Lyon ripped through their middle-order in the post-lunch session.
KL Rahul, meanwhile, held one end and scored a vital fifty at tea on Day 1. He, however, got no support from the other end. India kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which put them on the backfoot.

Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara managed to steady the innings, after India lost Abhinav Mukund for a duck. They added 61 runs for the second wicket. But, India lost Pujara (17) at the stroke of lunch.
After Pujara’s dismissal, Lyon managed sent two more batsmen packing in the second session. Virat Kohli (26) and Ajinkya Rahane (17) were outfoxed by Lyon, as India looked set for another collapse in the series.
Steven O’Keefe increased India’s troubles by outfoxing returning Karun Nair five minutes before tea. Nair (26) left the crease with no intent whatsoever, and Matthew Wade no mistake in stumping him.
