Australia opener Chris Rogers had a sweet-sour 2nd Ashes Test at the Lord’s, as he ended his barren run of centuries with 5th Test hundred in the innings, but had to leave the field in the second owing to dizziness.

Rogers didn’t take the field after going off on the third day, but the Aussie could feature in the playing XI of the 3rd Ashes Test. He, however, will miss the practice match against Derbyshire to continue his recovery.

According to Australia Team Doctor Peter Brukner, Rogers is improving and there is no serious damage. He added that Rogers suffered dizziness owing to a delayed ear problem.

Rogers was hit by a James Anderson bouncer in the second day of the 2nd Ashes Test, but he looked unaffected by the blow and went on to complete his century.

“Chris’s condition is certainly improving,” Brukner said. “He has had scans and seen a specialist since (Sunday) to help determine the cause of his dizziness. The initial scans have cleared him of any serious damage and we await the results of further tests.”

“It appears the most likely diagnosis is a delayed ear problem related to being struck on day two of the Test match. We are confident that this is something we can manage in the lead up to the third Test at Edgbaston.”

“As a precaution he’ll be reviewed by the specialist in London again on Wednesday morning before re-joining the touring party. Chris was not scheduled to play in the tour match against Derbyshire, so he has time to continue resting ahead of the Test match.”

This was the second time in a space of a month, Rogers was hit on the head. Earlier, he suffered a similar blow in Australia’s practice session in West Indies, because of which he had to miss two matches.

Rogers also missed Australia’s practice matches in a build-up to the Ashes series, but was drafted into the Australia squad for the 1st Ashes Test. The 3rd Ashes Test will start on July 29 in Birmingham; the series is currently locked at 1-1.
