Illegal bowling action? No worries, I can use my other hand!

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently came down hard on bowlers with suspect action and Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal and Kiwi Kane Williamson are banned from bowling in the international cricket.

Saeed Ajmal has decided to do a remedial work on his bowling action in a bid to get clean chit from the ICC, but Williamson has his own plans to start bowling for the Black Caps.

Williamson, who is a part-time off-spinner, was banned by the ICC last July for bowling in both domestic and international cricket, although he is playing as a specialist batsman.

The kiwi has decided not to do change his action, rather change his bowling hand to start bowling again for both the Black Caps and domestic side Northern Knights.

“You know, I’ll certainly be trying as much as I can,” Williamson told Radio Sport. “Whether that’s trying to do it with the other arm, that would be an interesting process but I’ll certainly be giving it a crack.”

Williamson, who is currently playing for the Knights in the Champions League T20, has reportedly started bowling from the left hand and is doing his best to start bowling again.

It will not be easy for the Black Caps international, who has been a right-hander in all his playing days, to switch hands in the middle of his career but he is certainly giving it a crack.

Meanwhile, a Northern Knights official told radionz.co.nz that Williamson is not practicing bowling left-arm and termed his quotes as a “throwaway line”.

“(It) was a throwaway line, but he hasn’t been practising bowling left arm in the nets and the closest he’s got to it is bowling left arm in hallway cricket,” the Knights official said.
