His name is Rajnikanth. He hails from Chennai. Unlike the famous actor, he has nothing to do with the film industry. But this Rajnikanth is the man behind a few fitter Indian players, who were responsible for scripting a history in Sri Lanka by winning a Test series after 22 years.
Sources said that Ishant Sharma is one such cricketer who has closely worked with Rajnikanth. Then, there are others like Test captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara who are following his fitness regime.
“Whosoever came to Chennai for a rehab, he worked under Rajnikanth and was benefitted. Even when Kohli was playing for India A, he worked under him,” a source close to the development told Drcricket7 on Wednesday.
Rajnikanth isn’t with the Indian senior team, but is closely working with the India ‘A’ team players. Stationed in Chennai, he is also looking after the fitness regime of the BCCI rehab centre.
A source revealed that when Ishant Sharma was going through the rehabilitation in Chennai, he worked with Rajnikanth and achieved supreme fitness.
The overall fitness standard of the team has gone up so much, resulting in excellent close in and slips catching. “Without having good fitness standards, you can’t really stand and deliver under those extremely hot conditions in Sri Lanka,” the source pointed out.
The current Indian team physiotherapist Shankar Basu has recently joined the team in Sri Lanka only recently. And he too is gelling well with the team!
