Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been India’s mainstay in all formats of the game, but more than that he is one of the most popular faces in the Indian dressing room. Youngsters look up to him as an inspiration and fellow teammate Murali Vijay is no different.
Vijay, who has just returned home post Test series against Australia, called MS Dhoni his inspiration and added that it was a great experience to play alongside his former Chennai Super Kings captain.
“Personally I have been inspired by him,” Vijay said. “As a player not many have inspired me. It was great to play with him for CSK for five years and then the Indian team. I learnt a lot.”
India lost the four-match Test series 2-0 in Australia, but Vijay was one of the standout performers in the series, along with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. The 30-year-old insisted that it was a good experience and the team will improve from it.
“Good experience and a good learning curve,” Vijay said. “We are improving and it’s a good sign. The bowlers gave it all and the effort was there. We didn’t seize the moments and we dropped some catches.”
