That day India made a lucky escape at the Lord’s thanks to MS Dhoni, who played a gritty innings and stayed till the end to ensure his team pulls out a draw in the opening Test of the series.

Dhoni stayed at the crease with S Sreesanth, who was the last batsman, and kept England at bay as the heavens opened up.

Sreesanth, meanwhile, survived a close lbw shout off Monty Panesar, but Dhoni managed to save the match for his side by anchoring one end against the moving ball, under the overcast conditions.

Dhoni ended up making an unbeaten 159-ball 76, which arrived after his shocking dismissal in the first innings. But, the young man had heart and adaptability, which came to his disposal when required.

Overcast conditions, moving ball and scoreboard pressure were not the only things, which Dhoni had to endure. When the young wicketkeeper arrived at the crease he was greeted with a witty remark.

English wicketkeeper, Matt Prior pipped a remark in the grey gloomy afternoon as Dhoni arrived at the crease. He said, “Yuvraj is looking brilliant in the nets, isn’t he Dhoni?”

But, the young lad from Ranchi, battled against all odds and played a fighting innings to help India draw the Test match.
