You didn’t have to be an expert of the game to predict India’s massive win over South Africa on the third day of the third Test match in Nagpur.

You just needed to know the trend in the series to know where the Test is heading towards. For a while, two South African batsmen – Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis – put together a fight to delay the inevitable.

But no one could have stopped India from winning the Nagpur Test over a team, which is the top-ranked side in the world. For the first time in nine years, the Proteas were beaten away from their home turf.

The Proteas were all shattered and the bowler, who plotted their downfall was Ravichandran Ashwin and he was all smiles after India’s comprehensive win in the Nagpur Test.

And why not? The off-spinner is right now the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket this year after taking 12 scalps in the Nagpur Test. He will probably get a few more in Delhi before ending the year on a high.

And if the words of his captain Virat Kohli are to be believed, India are able to achieve back-to-back Test series wins against Sri Lanka and South Africa because of superlative performance from Ravichandran Ashwin.

He is someone who is just not coming and bowling his spells. The lanky spinner is putting in a lot of thought and hard work behind every spell to out-think the opposition.

Since the last Australian series, Ravichandran Ashwin has been bowling well for India. Unfortunately, he didn’t have that many wickets to show how good he was bowling on the Australian soil.

There wasn’t much support from the other end of the wicket either. Fortunately, these factors didn’t stop him from keep his focus intact with a plenty of patience.

By the time, Ravichandran Ashwin was in perfect shape to dominate, the other spinners in the team also got their act together, as Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra kept in pace with Ashwin.

This helped India to strengthen their position as a good bowling unit. That is why the Indian spinners took 20 wickets in a Test match for the fourth time in the history of the game.

The home team are also buoyed by the fact that they are playing at home and using the conditions well without bothering too much about the reputation of being the tigers at home.

“It’s all about winning,” Kohli announced after India’s series win. But the most remarkable bit is that way the hosts came back in the Tests after losing the T20 and ODI series.
