Last season Mumbai Indians showed how it is done. They virtually won every match in the second-half of their campaign, and eventually ended up winning the league.

They did it in the hard way after losing the plot in the initial phase of the tournament. This season, newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants are standing in similar waters.

The Supergiants are required to win all six of their remaining matches to reach the playoffs. It is not going to be easy, seeing the kind of form they are in right now.

But, you never say never, seeing the leadership they have got in MS Dhoni. The Supergiants captain knows how to lift the team, he has done it earlier, and is more than capable of doing it again.

The Supergiants have match-winners in its ranks, still they are currently reeling at the third quarter in the points’ table. Reason? They are not clicking as a unit.

In the last game against Mumbai Indians, Pune failed to deliver with the bat, despite decent showing from the bowlers. Dhoni also pointed out the same, post-match.

“The bowling has shown improvement, but it doesn’t really count if you’re not winning games,” Dhoni had said. “We will change a few theories and try a few more things, and hopefully it will come off.”

The injuries have also not done any good to the Supergiants. Whenever a player had clicked, they lost it an injury. Steve Smith is the latest to join the list.

Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh and Smith are out of the tournament, and so far only Usman Khawaja has been added as a replacement player.

Reaching the IPL playoffs is going to be a tough task for Pune, as they now have to win all their remaining matches, which is a very difficult task for any team.

But, if Mumbai can do it, so can Pune. They just need to click as a unit, and deliver some complete performances to put their campaign right on track.

In the two matches that the Supergiants have won this season, they were pretty convincing. They clicked as a unit, and showed how dangerous a team they are.

They have lost four key players to injuries, but they still have the firepower to pull this off. And, they still have a chance of reaching the IPL playoffs.
