Rising Pune Supergiants have roped-in George Bailey as a replacement player of Faf du Plessis for the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.

Bailey, who remained unsold in the IPL auction, after captaining Kings XI Punjab in the last season, will provide the much-needed impetus to the Supergiants.

Former Australian captain, Bailey is one of the most consistent performers for Australia in the limited-overs format, and his record in the IPL is also impressive.

“We lost four crucial players, but we are looking ahead,” chief executive at Supergiants, Raghu Iyer said. “Bailey has tremendous experience and had a very successful season before last. He can contribute to the leadership group.”

The Supergiants have been hit by numerous injury in the ongoing season, as they have lost their four in-form overseas players so far.

Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith are the players that have returned home owing to injuries.

Earlier, the Pune-based side had added Usman Khawaja into the squad. Khawaja has been in fine touch throughout the season, and also Australia’s leading run-scorer in the World T20.

The Supergiants are currently sixth in the points table with just two wins in eight matches this season.
