Barbados Tridents end CLT20 campaign on winning note

Small total, empty stadium and a dead-rubber that pretty much explain the final Champions League T20 group game between the Northern Knights and the Barbados Tridents. In nothing-much-to-look-forward encounter the Barbados Tridents beat the Northern Knights on Tuesday.

Almost everyone in the Tridents batting line up got starts but none of them managed to convert it into a big total. Jonathan Carter top scored and made 28-ball 32, but he never get going, despite not having a scoreboard total over him at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

James Franklin (33 not out) played patiently till the end and drove his team home with Elton Chigumbura (18 not out). Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers for the Knights and took three wickets, while Scott Styris, playing his last competitive game, bowled tightly and only gave away 16 runs in his four overs.

Earlier, batting first, the Knights posted a 136 runs target for the Tridents, courtesy for Anton Devcich, who missed out on a half-century. Apart from the southpaw, none of the kiwi batsmen managed to get going in a rain-affected tie.

The Knights only managed to make just one good partnership between Devcich and Daniel Flynn for the second wicket, after the departure of Kane Williamson (1) cheaply. They stitched a 60-run stand for the second wicket but as Flynn (21) departs the kiwi side lost wickets on regular intervals.

Ravi Rampaul was again the standout performer for the Tridents and took three wickets, while Rayad Emrit and Dilshan Munaweera took two wickets each.
