Anurag Thakur to Preside; Ajay Shirke Becomes BCCI Secretary

Anurag Thakur has been elected president of the Indian Cricket Board, while Ajay Shirke has replaced him as the secretary of the BCCI.

In a special general meeting, Thakur became the 34th president of the BCCI, after his predecessor Shashank Manohar had stepped down from the post.

Manohar is stepped down as the president last week, and was appointed the first independent chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Thakur, who is one of the youngest BCCI president, was unanimously elected from the East Zone, after getting support from all six units.

Thakur, who also heads Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, and also a Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, will continue to preside BCCI till September 2017.

BCCI in a statement confirmed: Mr. Anurag Thakur has been unanimously elected as the new BCCI President at the Special General Meeting held at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai on May 22, 2016. Mr. Thakur’s tenure as BCCI President will extend till 2017.

Mr. Thakur, 41, was endorsed by all the six units of East zone – Cricket Association of Bengal, National Cricket Club, Odisha Cricket Association, Tripura Cricket Association, Assam Cricket Association and Jharkhand Cricket Association.
