Stephen Fleming on MS Dhoni: He Covers Below Par Performances

A couple of decent performances here and there, but at large it was a disappointing outing for Rising Pune Supergiants in this year’s Indian Premier League.

Pune’s coach Stephen Fleming has pointed out having someone like MS Dhoni, whose brilliant batting in their last match helped them avoid the wooden spoon.

“I think MS Dhoni is pretty remarkable, which probably covered up the performances that were below par,” Fleming pointed out.

Dhoni helped his side script a stunning run-chase by smashing 23 off Axar Patel’s final over, and ended by making a scorching half-century at a crucial time.

“While we chased down 170, we were stuttering along,” Fleming said. “But individual brilliance helped us crossed the line.”

“What we have been missing through the campaign were the special moments where players play match-winning innings,” he added.

Fleming, meanwhile, insisted that his team could only manage to produce very less ‘outstanding’ performances, which hurt them eventually.

“We have been good, but we were not outstanding,” Fleming insisted. “MS was outstanding and that is the difference between winning and losing.”

The Supergiants could only manage to win five out of their 14 matches in the tournament, and finished second from the bottom.
