AB de Villiers, Imran Tahir propel South Africa to big win over West Indies

South Africa

The day completely belonged to South Africa as they registered a massive 257-run win over West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Skipper AB de Villiers and leg-spinner Imran Tahir were instrumental in the Proteas win as they put their World Cup campaign back on track.

De Villiers was in the league of his own as South Africa posted a mammoth 408 in 50 overs, courtesy contributions from Hashim Amla, Rile Rossouw and de Villiers. Rossouw and Amla made half-centuries and provided stability to the innings.

Meanwhile, de Villiers thrashed the Windies bowling attack all over the park and ended up making an unbeaten 66-ball 162. He also scored the fastest 150 and second fastest World Cup hundred.

Chasing a colossal total was always going to be a tough task for the Caribbean outfit but they failed to even put a fight and were bundled for a 151 in 32 overs. Windies were rocked early by Kyle Abbott, who dismissed in-form Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels.

If the first innings belonged to de Villiers, Tahir stamped his mark in the second by completing a fifer. Tahir ripped through Windies middle-order, dismissing Dwayne Smith, Denesh Ramdin, Lendl Simmons, Darren Sammy and Andre Russell.
