It’s tough being a Cheteshwar Pujara these days. It’s even tougher to imagine his status in the current Indian Test team. This is the same cricketer who was considered to the next big thing in Indian Test scene after the likes of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman were on their way out.
But with time, he came down from the stature of a solid Test batsman to someone who struggles against genuine quick bowlers. In the last Australian series, there were a few gaping holes between his bat and ball that saw the middle-stumps getting uprooted a number of times.
For Cheteshwar Pujara, that is a thing of the past. He wants to move ahead and make a difference to his team. His sub-continent Test record is untouchable and with India playing all their Tests in this part of the world, he wants to make undone his past by scoring some hundreds for the country.
Already, Pujara has been among runs in the A-series matches and is all set for the coming Sri Lankan Test tour. But it remains to be seen if he finds himself in the playing XI or not.
In the last Test match that India played against Bangladesh, Pujara didn’t figure in the playing XI. During the first Test match against Lanka in Galle, Pujara may be missing from the action once more, as the team management is likely to continue with the same combination used in Bangladesh.
But Cheteshwar Pujara will eventually, without a doubt, make a difference. Everyone is waiting for him to comeback strongly!
