After T20 Comeback, Yuvraj Singh Hoping for Test Return

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh has always known to be a limited-overs specialist. He, however, has failed to live up to his potential in the longer version of the game.

Used mainly as a 12th man in Dravid-Sachin-Ganguly era, Yuvraj got limited opportunities in the Test team, and failed to establish himself in the squad.

Yuvraj has played just 40 Tests, scored 1900 runs, featuring three centuries for India in a career spanning more than 16 years. He clearly hasn’t played enough in whites.

It is difficult for Yuvraj to make a return on the ODI team, seeing the kind of middle-order batting India have in this format, and Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey and already fighting it out for a place in the playing XI.

However, his return to the Test side is looking more realistic, given he proves his form and fitness in the domestic competition, and score heavily.

“There’s an opportunity there, for sure. India is playing 13-15 Tests in India next,” Yuvraj said. “I’ve scored six-seven hundreds in the past couple of seasons in the Ranji Trophy.”

“If I get a chance to play on spinning tracks, I’ve been playing spin well,” he added. “I’d love to play Test cricket again. See, selection isn’t in my hand. All I can do is try my best.”
