Australia vs India: Cricket Australia announced revised calendar, Adelaide to host first Test

Team India

Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the revised scheduled of the Test series against India, with Adelaide to host the first Test of the four-match series, starting December 9 at Adelaide Oval.

Brisbane, which was to host the opening match earlier, is now named as the venue for the second Test, while Melbourne and Sydney will host the remaining two matches.

“We looked at possibly holding the Brisbane Test in the New Year following Sydney but we felt that would only compromise the tri-series against England and India which is important preparation for our ICC Cricket World Cup campaign,” James Sutherland said.

“There will be knock-on effects from these decisions which people will obviously want answers to,” he added. “We will work through them as quickly as we can, but just ask for patience given these unprecedented circumstances.”

The Test series was earlier slated to start from December 4 in Brisbane, but untimely demise of Australian batsman Phil Hughes in a Sheffield Shield match made CA to reschedule the tour.

Australian team is to attend Hughes’ funeral at his hometown on December 3 (Wednesday) and if the series was not rescheduled, it would have not been possible for them to play in Brisbane.

Australia vs India Test Series Revised Schedule:

1st Test (Adelaide) – December 9 to December 13

2nd Test (Brisbane) – December 17 to December 21

3rd Test (Melbourne) – December 26 to December 30

4th Test (Sydney) – January 6 to January 10, 2015
