Team India director Ravi Shastri has thrown his weight behind skipper MS Dhoni and said that if Clive Lloyd and Ricky Ponting could win the World Cup twice as the captains of their respective teams, the India skipper can also do so.
“I have always had enormous respect for Dhoni as a person and as a captain,” Shastri insisted. “I have highest respect for everything, absolutely everything, that he’s done for Indian cricket.”
“He has won World T20, the World Cup and Champions Trophy….taken India to No. 1 Test ranking. Could it be better,” Shastri was quoted as saying the media on Wednesday.
“This, too, could be the Cup for Dhoni. It’s possible. Clive Lloyd and Ricky Ponting have won back-to-back World Cups,” Shastri added.
Coming from a cricket analyst of Shastri’s stature, this is indeed good news for Indian cricket team and its fans!
