India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma is due for a big score. In the last two matches against Pakistan and South Africa, the Mumbai run-machine failed to deliver and couldn’t score much. Now, Rohit must be looking to get back to his big scoring form soon.

After Chris Gayle’s fastest double century against Zimbabwe in Canberra on Tuesday, it may motivate Rohit to come out with flying colours. Out of five double hundreds that have been scored so far in the ODI cricket, the Indian opener has two of them.

In November last year, he scored 264 runs off 173 balls at his favourite ground, the Eden Gardens, against Sri Lanka in a bilateral series. In 2013, he became the third batsman to score a 209-run knock against Australia after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

In the tri-series earlier this year , Rohit had scored a big hundred against the Aussies. Batting first, India had made 267 runs and Rohit scored 138. India lost the match to Australia but Rohit made huge impressions. He was out of the team due to his hamstring injury in the later stages of the tournament. He was declared fit for the World Cup.

With his opening partner Shikar Dhawan making the most of the situation in the World Cup, Rohit would be hungry to prove his mettle. So far he is the only top-order batsman who hasn’t scored for India. Indian vice-captain Virat Kolhi, Ajinkya Rahane and Suresh Raina are the top performers.

It is now time for Rohit to outperform Gayle when India take on UAE.
