When England lost four wickets at a score of 87, India were right in the game after losing the toss in the third Test match against England. But it was the 5th and 6th wicket partnerships that kept the Indian bowlers at bay.
Perhaps, the visitors could have done better with the bat after getting to bat on a fresh track in Mohali.

That is why the opening day in Mohali belonged to the home team. Starting from Mohammad Shami to Ravindra Jadeja, all of them proved their worth. There were a few dropped catches as well.
But, the rest of the game plan went off well for India. The pace duo – Umesh Yadav and Shami – could have got more wicket if they would have bowled a little fuller. Overall, it was a satisfactory show from the pacer, which was well complimented by the spinners.
Wicketkeeping of Parthia Patel, who is playing Test cricket after eight long years, did miss a few opportunity to grab more victims. But at the end of the day, he also was involved in two dismissals.
When the stumps were drawn, England were slightly stable with a score of 268 for eight and it would be interesting to see how India would bat on the Mohali pitch on Day 2.
In the opening Test, India had faced with a similar situation in Rajkot after England made over 500 runs in the first innings. India responded well with the bat then and would be hoping to do the same in Mohali.
