The Indian team has gained control of the Mohali Test on the first day itself. India restricted England to 268/8 at stumps on Day 1. It was an excellent bowling performance after all the chaos that happened in the morning.

India lost opener KL Rahul to injury right before the toss, which they lost. The Indians also dropped a couple of catches in the morning session itself. But, the bowlers ensured that they end the day at the top.

“The ball was swinging so I just wanted to hit the right areas,” Umesh Yadav said. “Sometimes catches are dropped, but this is cricket. Sometimes your team-mates take good catches too.

“I thought the ball reversed in a little too much so I tried to take it away too, but that didn’t happen,” he added.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli used all his bowlers, and they stuck to their tasks. Umesh, Jayant Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets each, while Mohammad Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin took one apiece.

Meanwhile, England made a decent start after winning the toss. But, after a couple of let offs, they lost wickets in regular intervals. They did manage to get a couple of decent partnerships, but they were not enough.

Jonny Bairstow was by far England’s best batsmen in the day. He stitched some important partnerships with Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes. But, his dismissal in the final hour of play hurted England the most.

Bairstow was all set for a hundred, but was dismissed by Jayant just a ball after he was dropped.
