Watch Faf du Plessis maiden T20 hundred against West Indies [VIDEO]

The second T20I against West Indies might not went as per Faf du Plessis liking but the South Africa T20 skipper end up joining elite list in the international cricket, with maiden century in the shortest format of the game.

Du Plessis led from the front and made a scorching 46-ball hundred to propel the Proteas to 231/7 in 20 overs. He thus becomes the first South African to hit centuries in all three formats of the game and only the second after Richard Levi in T20s.

Du Plessis has four centuries to his name in Tests, while in the one-dayers he has reached the three figures mark thrice. The Proteas hit five sixes and 11 fours to post the highest individual score in T20s for South Africa.

“I was joking earlier that its heart-breaking when you score your first T20 hundred and you don’t even get a crack at man of the match,” du Plessis quipped.

“It generally goes to the opposition, the guys that win the match so I understand that,” he added. “It would have been so much sweeter if we had won the game. Although I’m proud of my efforts today, losing the game doesn’t make it special, it is bittersweet.”

“If there is a good wicket the ball just flies a little bit,” Du Plessis explained. “We saw the sixes today, they were huge, David Miller hit a few into the green. The sixes are always bigger than at any other ground here because the ball travels further through the air.”

West Indies destructive opener, Chris Gayle, meanwhile, stole the show and was adjourned man of the match for his 90 off only 41 balls. The Caribbean outfit managed to chase down the highest total in T20s.
