A loss in Rajkot has put Team India in a must-win situation against South Africa in the 4th ODI, if they want to remain alive in the series. The men in blue must not have expected this when the series started, but this is how the things are at the moment.

The Proteas should be given due credit for the way they have performed in the series so far, despite not been rated highly before the tour. So far, more than once in the tour they have managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

“As far as the team is concerned, the word that comes to mind is character,” AB de Villiers said. “The boys have shown amazing character. We have done so in the whole tour so far.”

“I think it is vital and it is a key in the game we played that you can’t ever give up,” he added. “I have reiterated it in team meetings, before the game and during the game.”

Despite leading the five-match series, South Africa cannot take India lightly, especially the way the hosts have performed in the last couple of matches, although they failed to deliver the knockout punch in the 3rd ODI.

India showed a fighting spirit in the 2nd ODI, when MS Dhoni’s men managed to draw the series level, and they are more than capable of pulling off another series-leveling win.

“We sit here 2-1 up against India, it’s a great position to be here and it’s a wonderful opportunity to win the series,” a cautious AB de Villiers said.

“We won’t touch the money yet but we have got a good chance in the last two,” he added. “We would love to win both. But all the focus will be on the next game in Chennai. We would love to break through there.”
