Shikhar Dhawan has got the backing of skipper Virat Kohli despite under-par performances.

After scoring a couple of ducks in the 1st Test against South Africa in Mohali, Shikhar Dhawan seemed to have got his mojo back, after playing a flowing innings in the 2nd Test in Bangalore.

Shikhar Dhawan faced a lot of bashing, despite India winning the game, as he looked completely looked out of sorts during his short stay on the crease.

The opener, however, showed character in the Bangalore Test and made a flowing, unbeaten 40 on a first day pitch that was assisting the bowlers.

India Test skipper Virat Kohli, meanwhile, has defended Shikhar Dhawan, saying that the opener was not out of form, and there is no need to be harsh on him.

“If you call scoring two centuries in three Test matches struggling, I don’t know what being in form is,” Virat Kohli said. “He scored a century in Bangladesh and then in Galle.”

“Unfortunately he got injured and after that played in first Test in Mohali,” he added. “So, let’s not be too harsh on someone just because of two innings.”

Virat Kohli termed Shikhar Dhawan an impact player of Team India, and said the Delhi dasher is batting pretty well at the moment.

“We have to be patient with someone like Shikhar because he is an impact player and we need to give him as much confidence as we can,” Virat Kohli insisted. “When he gets going he will win you the game for sure.”

“I don’t think he is out of form; he is batting beautifully,” he added. “Getting some runs here was good for his own mental makeup. We don’t see any issue with his batting or confidence.”
