Virat Kohli has been India’s mainstay for quite a long time now and is among the leading run scorers for the team in all formats of the game.
The stand-in skipper has impressed one and all with his consistency and former Aussie Adam Gilchrist is one of them.
Gilchrist, who is arguably the best wicketkeeper-batsman the game has even seen, insisted that Kohli could turn out to be the best player for Team India. The former Aussie added that Kohli’s record in oversees series will also improve with time.
Kohli has led India to a series win over Sri Lanka recently, in which the men in blue hammered the Islanders ruthlessly. He will also lead Team India in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane.
“Virat has the capability of being the best player in the world,” Gilchrist said. “He has some learning that he will need to overcome away from India but I believe he can do it and has the game and hunger to do it.”
“He may well thrive with this opportunity, is a big game player, so I think he will really enjoy taking on that responsibility,” Gilchrist added.
Meanwhile, Team India director Ravi Shastri has also praised Kohli for leading the team to a series win. “He’s aggressive and he’s very young, so the exuberance is still seen in him, which is very good for the team,” Shastri said. “And I see a bit of myself in him.”
