Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of State-Independent Charge for Sports & Youth Affairs, showed praises on Team India for their performance so far in the 2015 World Cup. He attributed India’s recent success to captain MS Dhoni and said: “Dhoni has built a formidable side around him and he is leading the side beautifully. I would like to see our team winning the World Cup again.”

The Union Minister also said that he has been following India’s progress in the World Cup very closely and also was quite impressed with the way India beat Zimbabwe by six wickets in the last match of the Pool B on Saturday.

“It was again Dhoni, who led from the front. The way he guided India along with his teammates was really remarkable,” Sonowal said at Delhi’s Feroz shah Kotla while playing a friendly match against Delhi Police on Sunday. The Union Minister was representing the Parliament’s XI team led by BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, who is also a Parliamentarian.

“It’s not only cricket, we want India to do well in every sport. We want India to become a sports hub. Of course, cricket is extremely popular, and I also enjoy the sport like any other Indian. Our cricket team has done well in the previous World Cup and I don’t see the reason why can’t they do well again in Australia,” Sonowal added.

On behalf of the BCCI and the Parliament team even Thakur was exuded confidence that India would go the distance in the World Cup. “The team is doing exceedingly well now. All the players are in good form and are capable of winning matches from difficult positions. India were the best team in the group stages and I am confident that they would be the best in the world also,” Thakur said.

Another Minister of State for Urban Development, Babul Supriyo’s had only one concern — the law of average shouldn’t catch up with the Indian team. “I hope to see India wining the World Cup and also hope that the law of average doesn’t come our way. It can come later after we have won the World Cup,” Babul Supriyo, who was also a part of the Parliament XI cricket team, added.
