The International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Chris Broad has penalized South Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock for nudging Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal in the ongoing Test in Chittagong.

At the stroke of lunch in the second day of the 1st Test, de Kock barged shoulder with Iqbal, who was earlier involved with Rile Rossouw in the similar incident.

The on-field umpires quickly took notice of the incident and separated the duo, while South Africa skipper Hashim Amla also intervened to calm down the situation.

Proteas speedster Dale Steyn was also seen defusing the situation. Although, the incident was not telecasted on TV, but was shown on the giant screen in the stadium.

The ICC in the media release informed about the charges put over the South African wicketkeeper and 75 per cent fine he would be facing owing to a ‘deliberate physical contact’.

“South Africa wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock has been fined 75 per cent of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong on Wednesday.”

“The 22-year-old was found to have breached Article 2.2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to “Inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other Person (including a spectator) in the course of play during an International Match.”

De Kock didn’t contest the charge and accepted the punishment, so there wasn’t any formal hearing done in the incident. Broad, meanwhile, pointed out in a statement that the game has no space for such incidents.

“As the over before lunch came to an end, Quinton de Kock walked in front of the stumps to confront Tamim Iqbal,” Broad said in a statement.

“In doing so de Kock deliberately brushed Tamim Iqbal’s shoulder and rib area. This resulted in a heated exchange between the two, initiated by the contact made by de Kock. This type of incident has no place on a cricket field.”
