Ravichandran Ashwin is India’s lead spinner in the Test format. He has produced some amazing performances for the team in the longest version of the game. However, the same cannot be said about his limited-overs outings.
Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are creating serious competition in the spin department. India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun, meanwhile, has termed Ashwin a vital cog of India’s limited-overs squad.
“I don’t want to look at what has happened so far,” Arun insisted. “But definitely yes Ashwin is also part of the ODI team we are looking at. We would also like to give a lot of opportunities to other bowlers.”

“And then we have a long-term plan in place,” he added. “After that, we’ll take a call.”
The Indian team has rested both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for Sri Lanka limited-overs match. This was done keeping in mind the number of overs both delivered in the Test matches against the Islanders.
“It is important that we monitor the workload of the bowlers,” Arun said. “So it’s not only in practice but also what they do in the matches you take into account.”
