India captain MS Dhoni has played an instrumental role in India’s meteoric rise in world cricket. He made India a force to reckon win in all three formats of the game.
During his tenure, India reached to the number one spot in Tests, ODIs and T20s, while also winning the World Cup, World T20 and Champions Trophy.
MS Dhoni is the only captain who has won all three ICC tournaments. Statistically as well, numbers show that he is the best India has ever had across formats.
Team India director, Ravi Shastri has also echoed the same sentiments, calling the Indian skipper “by far” the best captain of the Indian cricket team.
“I have said it long long ago. By far (Dhoni is India’s best captain)! But believe me there will be two three who want him to retire,” Shastri said.
Shastri, meanwhile, also pointed out that the team is not depended on an individual, and most players in the squad are at the top of their game.
“We are not a team of individuals,” Shastri insisted. “We are the Indian cricket team. Virat has been in outstanding form, so as Rohit. MS has done a wonderful job lower down the order, Yuvraj (Singh) has struck form.”
“Shikhar has had his moments,” he added. “To win big tournaments you cannot have one individual winning it for you. You need 7-8 performing consistently.”
