Ranji Trophy Round Up: Paras Dogra, Robin Uthappa slams century on Day 2

Paras Dogra, Robin Uthappa, Akshath Reddy, Ankit Bawane were among the century makers on the second day of the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 season. Here are the highlights of the day:

Bengal vs Tamil Nadu: In reply to TN’s first innings score of 246, Bengal were 183/3 at stumps. Abhimanyu Easwaran was batting on 41 with Manoj Tiwary on 54 at close of play on Tuesday. While TN’s R Prasanna retired hurt on 50, the rest of the TN line-up succumbed to the hosts after resuming on 208/5. Earlier while Ashoke Dinda claimed R Sathish to complete a four-wicket haul in the innings PB Chakraborty claimed two wickets.

Karnataka vs J&K: Jammu & Kashmir trail by 227 runs with nine wickets in hand in the second hand in reply to Karnataka’s 423/9 declared. Robin Uthappa scored 156 while CM Gautam made 80 and S Gopal scored 58 not out to help the hosts to a huge first innings lead. At stumps J&K were 36/1.

Uttar Pradesh vs Baroda: Irfan Pathan’s 98 followed by Swapnil Singh’s 73 not out helped Baroda to 498 after resuming on 316/6 on the second morning. Remaining unbeaten on 69, Tanmay Srivastava then took UP to stumps on 103/1.

Haryana vs Delhi: Bowled out for 278 without adding to the overnight score, Delhi skittled Haryana out for 188 to grab a first innings lead. Sumit Narwal and Varun Sood picked three wickets each while N Saini took two and Parvinder Awana, Rajat Bhatia took a wicket each. H Rana top-scored for Haryana with 80 while the rest of the batsmen caved in to the opposition without offering much resistance. At stumps Delhi were 7/0 in the second innings and lead by 97 runs.

Odisha vs Vidarbha: Vidarbha were 129/4 at stumps on Day 2 after being asked to bat by Odisha. Ganesh Sathish was batting on 62 with R Jangid on five at the end of day’s play.

Team Rajasthan vs Punjab: Resuming on 295/4, Team Rajasthan made 433 before being bowled out earlier in the day. Pankaj Singh then claimed three after Deepak Chahar removed Jiwanjot Singh and A Choudhary picked one wicket to keep the balance tipped in hosts favour. Gurkeerat Singh was batting on 70 with S Kaul at stumps. At 140/5, the visitors were trailing by 239 runs when play ended.

Saurashtra vs Maharashtra: After Maharashtra piled on 519, Saurashtra were 94/3 at stumps on second day. Earlier Ankit Bawane scored 124 to power Maharashtra to a mammoth score while Chirag Khurana made 69. Shrikant Mundhe and Samad Fallah then removed both the openers to leave Saurashtra on 9/2. However, Sheldon Jackson took the team to stumps with 57 not out.

Andhra Pradesh vs Jharkhand: Andhra were trailing by 67 runs with six wickets in hand at the end of day’s play. Having wrapped up Jharkhand’s first innings for 246 earlier in the morning, AP were 179/4 at stumps. Although they lost opener KS Bharat with a run on the board, M Sriram rallied on and held the innings together. The No.3 bat made 71 to keep his side in the fray. When play ended, A Pradeep was batting on 39 with Ricky Bhui on 15.

Assam vs Services: Assam were leading by 98 runs with two wickets in hand at the end of second day’s play in Guwahati. The hosts claimed the remaining two Services’ wickets in the morning to bowl the visitors out for 113. And although they lost both their openers with just 17 runs on the board, they were kept in the reckoning by Sibsankar Roy. The top-order batsman made 81 to help his team to a first innings lead before being sent back by Yashpal Singh. Assam were 211/8 at the end of day’s play with A Konwar and AK Das in the middle.

Himachal Pradesh vs Kerala: Unbeaten on 115 at the end of day’s play, Paras Dogra propelled HP to 287/6 on the second day. Kerala’s Nizar Niyas and U Manukrishnan picked two wickets each while K Monish and Amit Verma claimed a wicket each.

Tripura vs Hyderabad: Akshath Reddy slammed 174 to power Hyderabad to 487/9 on the second day. Hyderabad were leading by 303 runs at the end of second day’s play against Tripura. D Teja was four runs short of his hundred while Anwar Ahmed was yet to open his account when play ended for the day.
