Ranji Trophy Round-up: Kalaria claims six, Shreyas Gopal slams 145

Shreyas Gopal slammed 145 to lift Karnataka to a respectable total against Bengal while Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Mukand (110*) and Rajasthan’s Vineet Saxena were amongst the century makers on the second day of round two of the ongoing tournament. Haryana’s A Hooda claimed 5/27 against Maharashtra while TN’s Rahil Shah and Malolan Rangarajan picked four-fors. Here are the highlights of the day:

Bengal vs Karnataka: Shreyas Gopal’s determined 145 lower down the order lifted Karnataka to 408 after resuming on the overnight total of 237/7. In reply Bengal were 62/1 at stumps with R Banerjee on 27 and S Chatterjee on 10.

J&K vs Tamil Nadu: Rahil Shah and Malolan Rangarajan picked four wickets each while Aushik Srinivas claimed two to bowl J&K out for 132 earlier in the day and seize a first innings lead. Powered by Abhinav Mukund’s century TN were leading by 321 runs with nine wickets in hand at stumps. The opener was batting on 110 with Baba Aprajith on 53 when play ended on Monday evening.

Madhya Pradesh vs Uttar Pradesh: UP were trailing by 147 runs with four wickets in hand at the end of day’s play with Piyush Chawla (19*) and Praveen Kumar (25*) at the crease. The Ishwar Pandey-led attack had left the hosts reeling on 8/3. Umang Sharma and Parvinder Singh then attempted to revive the innings but Pandey struck to send back the latter. Sanjay Mishra then followed up with the wickets of Eklavya Dwivedi and Sharma.

Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav polished off the tail to bowl MP out for 296. The young bowler finished with a four-for while lower-order bat, Puneet Datey remained unbeaten on 63.

Railways vs Mumbai: Wet ground did not allow for play to take place at the Karnail Singh Stadium in Delhi.

Haryana vs Maharashtra: Samad Fallah and Anupam Sanklecha ran through the Haryana line-up to bowl the opposition out for 136 earlier in the day. Fallah picked four while Sanklecha claimed three wickets. However, the A Hooda-led attack bowled Maharashtra out for 105 to take a 31-run first innings lead in the game. Hooda claimed 5/27 while J Sharma took 3/27 while Mohit Sharma chipped in with a wicket to bowl the visitors out in 39.1 overs.

Odisha vs Gujarat: At 255/4, Gujarat were leading by 30 runs in the first innings at stumps on the second day. Bhargav Merai was batting on 87 and Axar Patel on 31 when play ended for the day. Biplab Samantray had dealt the first blow by removing opener S Gohel for 14 and claimed Rajul Bhatt later in the day. Pradhan and Deepak Behera chipped in with a wicket each.

Earlier, resuming on 219/8, Odisha were bowled out for 225 in the first innings earlier in the day. Rush Kalaria claimed Suryakant Pradhan to finish with a six-wicket haul while Kushang Patel sent back Halhadar Das.

Vidarbha vs Punjab: Vidarbha were trailing by 46 runs with four wickets in hand at stumps on Day 2 against Punjab. The hosts lost both their openers earlier in the day with just four runs on the board and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. S Kaul claimed 5/44 to leave Vidarbha struggling in their own backyard. When play ended, A Ubarhande was batting on 15 with R Dhruv on seven.

Rajasthan vs Saurashtra: Resuming on 5/0 Rajasthan were propelled to 264 for two at stumps by centurion Vineet Saxena (118). Robin Bist was batting on 83 with Ashok Menaria on 25 at the end of day’s play.

Andhra vs Kerala: Having bowled Andhra out for 141, Kerala had taken an 88-run lead at the end of day’s play. Niyas Nazar and Manu Krishnan picked three wickets each while Raiphi Gomez took two to help wrap-up the opposition in 68.3 overs.

Assam vs Jharkhand: Jharkhand had taken a five-run led by the end of second day’s play against Assam. Hvaing bowled the opposition out for 191 earlier in the day, Jharkhand were 196/4 at stumps with Saurabh Tiwary batting on 18 with Kaushal Singh on 37.

Hyderabad vs Goa: Centuries by Tanmay Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari and Ahmed Quadri had powered Hyderabad to 562/7 at stumps. After resuming on 114, Agarwal was sent back for 135 while Vihari returned to the pavilion for 179. Quadri was batting on 112 to when play ended with Chama Milind on 16.

Services vs Tripura: Asked to bat, Tripura were 267/5 at stumps on the second day. Although the hosts had reduced the visitors to 44/3, Abhijit Dey and Yogesh Takawale worked to rebuild the innings and taken Tripura to 151 until D Punia struck. Takawale went on to make valuable 89 before being sent back by Roshan Raj. Skipper R Banik was batting on 49 with K Acharjee on 48 when play ended for the day
