The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former South Africa and Australia coach Mickey Arthur as Pakistan Cricket Team coach.

According to a release issued by the PCB, the South African has confirmed that he will take over head coach’s job by the end of this month.

Arthur is replacing Waqar Younis, who resigned after Pakistan’s exit from the World T20 in April. Since then the post has been vacant.

“Following detailed consultations on this matter at the last Board of Governors’ meeting and further telephone consultations by the PCB Chairman with BOG members,” the PCB statement reads.

“Discussions with Mickey Arthur were initiated and he has confirmed his acceptance of the post of Head Coach of the Pakistan National Cricket team,” statement adds.

Arthur has plenty of coaching experience under his belt, as he previously had successful stints with South Africa (2005-2010) and Australia (2011-2013).

His stint with Australia, however, was clouded by the ‘homework game episode’, which led to his uneasy relationship with the team, and was eventually sacked.

Arthur since then has been involved with coaching the franchisee teams, and was the coach of Karachi Kings in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League.
