MS Dhoni took everyone by surprise, and stepped down as Indian Cricket Team’s limited-overs captain. He will, however, remain available for selection as a wicketkeeper-batsman for the Indian team.

It, again, came as a surprise decision from India’s most successful cricket captain. He had taken a similar kind of approach when he opted to retire from Test cricket in 2014 during the Australian tour.

Rahul Johri, BCCI’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “On the behalf of every Indian cricket fan and the BCCI, I would like to thank MS Dhoni for his outstanding contribution as the captain of the Indian team across all formats.”

“Under his leadership, Indian team has touched new heights and his achievements. He will remain etched forever in the annals of Indian cricket.”

Dhoni has won virtually every silverware available in the competitions to win. He led India to World T20, World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2015 wins. He also has IPL and Champions League T20 titles to his kitty.
