As the Indian team is gearing up for a tough limited-overs series against Australia, MS Dhoni has received the backing of team director Ravi Shastri.
Shastri termed Dhoni a champion player, adding that he still has plenty left in the tank. “Never try to write off a champion like Dhoni, especially when he’s hungry,” Shastri said.
The Team India director was quite pleased with the way Dhoni performed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and spent time in the middle ahead of the crucial tour.
“Jharkhand lost (in the quarters), but Dhoni would have felt good after having spent time in the middle,” Shastri hoped. “He hadn’t played for a while.”
Dhoni-led Team India will be playing a five-match ODI series against the World Champions Australia, followed by a three-match T20 series.
The opening rubber of the series will be played at the WACA, followed by matches in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. Team India will be playing the T20 series in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
