It was no less than a thumping win for India in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe. They were a better side throughout the match, and completed their nine wickets win with 45 balls to spare.
KL Rahul scored a brilliant century on debut, but the bowlers were the ones who set the win in the opening game of the three-match ODI series.
Jasprit Bumrah, Barinder Sran, Dhawal Kulkarni, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel bowled brilliantly in the match. Captain MS Dhoni also acknowledged the performance of his bowlers after the win.
“It was a very good performance,” Dhoni said. “I felt the fast bowlers did well, and were backed by the spinners even though there wasn’t much help for them.”
“A win first up is important in a three-game series,” he added in the post-match presentation. “The batsmen did a very good job, but the bowlers laid the ground work.”
Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India, and finished with four wickets, Kulkarni and Sran took two wickets each, while Chahal and Patel finished with one each.
The second match of the series will be played at the same Harare Sports Club on Monday, with India heading into the game to seal the series.
