Hardik Pandya repaid his captain’s faith in the Asia Cup opener by playing a counterattacking knock to help India post a competitive total on a green Mirpur pitch.
After playing a scorching knock, Pandya has received praise from his skipper MS Dhoni, who termed him an overall package for the Indian team.
“Batting fearlessly is Hardik’s strength and that’s why we want to give him more matches. He’s a good fielder too and a useful third seamer,” Dhoni said. “He’s an overall package, we can promote him often.”
Pandya, who was delighted after playing an instrumental role in India’s win, said he wants to be a player that can contribute in all three aspects of the game.
“I want to be that guy who, whenever the team needs, is there…in batting, bowling, and fielding,” Pandya said. “So, that kind of player I want to be for India. I idolise Jacques Kallis, because I want to be the Kallis of India.”
