MS Dhoni on Batting: I am a Simple Player who play Unorthodox Cricket

India captain MS Dhoni can play a dual role. He can just hang-in there to see off the attack, while also clearing the ropes when required, at will.

Against Australia, in a virtual quarterfinal of the World T20 2016, Dhoni played a innings, featuring one and twos. He ran hard for singles, and converted ones into two with Virat Kohli batting at the other end.

When Kohli was going ballistic from one end, and ripping the Australian attack apart, the Indian captain played a patient knock to take his team into the semis.

Dhoni, on his hard-fought knock, said he is not someone like Kohli, who can hit shots all over the ground, and has a different, unorthodox batting style.

“I am a simple player. I play unorthodox cricket,” Dhoni said. “I push the ball around, take one or two runs & if the ball is in my bat-swing area, I hit a six.”

“I am not like Virat who can hit on different parts of the ground,” he added. “I know my areas, and if it is there, I like to clear the boundary.”

“That’s my strength has been. In the middle overs it’s all about running between the wickets,” the Indian captain said in the post-match press conference.

India are not set to lock horns with West Indies in the semifinals that will be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
